mr. D. (Daan) Beltman

Daan Beltman studied Dutch law (main subjects: constitutional and administrative law; and international public law) from September 1998 until September 2005. In the year 2003 he studied one semester abroad at the Faculté de droit in Fribourg ( Switzerland ). Furthermore, he did internships at a Dutch Law firm (‘KienhuisHoving’) and at the Non Governmental Organisation, the International Service for Human Rights in Geneva . In 2004 he participated in the International Human Rights Moot Court, René Cassin in Strasbourg . Finally in 2005 he finished his studies with a thesis on the legal position of unaccompanied minor asylum seekers in Dutch asylum law in light of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Since 2006 Daan is occupied with a doctoral thesis on the quality of decision-making in family-related immigration procedures. In the years 2007-2008 Daan was member of the faculty’s PhD council for which he was amongst others actively involved in the assessment of the faculty’s PhD education program and the research on the quality of supervision of PhD-candidates at the Faculty of law. From 2009 up to 2010 Daan worked at the District Court Groningen (administrative law division) as an outside clerk. In 2011 and 2012 he has been appointed by the University of Groningen Faculty of law as an editor and a researcher for the VU University Amsterdam research programme : "Cross Border Welfare State". From September 2012 until Februari 2017 Daan worked as a legal scholar at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences of the University of Groningen. He conducted legal research in the field of children's rights and migration law at the university's Study Centre for Children, Migration and Law.
