prof. dr. C.W.A.M. (Kees) Aarts
Kees Aarts is since 2016 Professor of Political Institutions and Behavior in the Department of Sociology. Until August 2024, he was also Dean of the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Previously he was Professor of Political Science at the University of Twente (2005-16), where he worked since 1985. His research focuses on democracy, elections and electoral behavior, in the Netherlands as well as in an international comparative perspective. His interests also include social science data and methodology. Aarts received Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of Amsterdam (1979 and 1985), and his PhD degree from the University of Twente (1990).
Kees Aarts is an elected member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW).
