Kees de Glopper gave lectures and supervised theses and internships in the Bachelor's and Master's programs in Dutch Language and Culture/Dutch Studies and Communication and Information Sciences/Communication and Education. Below are descriptions of the courses he taught or contributed to in recent years. This is followed by a list of other courses that he has taught in the more distant past or to which he has contributed.
Language and literacy development Dutch (2nd year Bachelor's program in Dutch Language and Culture)
In this course, students acquire knowledge and insight into the development of children's oral and written language skills, the psychological and social factors that influence this, and the possibilities for stimulating and directing developmental processes. In addition, attention is paid to the ability to answer questions regarding the language skills development of children based on targeted literature research in an oral presentation.
Methodology (2nd year Bachelor's program Dutch Language and Culture)
The aim of the module is to gain insight into the methodology of research within the various sub-disciplines of Dutch Studies. Similarities and differences in the typical methods of research within literature, linguistics and language proficiency are highlighted, based on the analysis of research. Themes: philology, interpretation and contextualization in literary research, model development and testing in linguistics, empirical methods of language use research.
Research studio (2nd year Bachelor's program Dutch Language and Culture)
The research workshop gives you a taste of what is involved in conducting linguistic, literary or language proficiency research. The intention is that, in preparation for your graduation thesis, you discover where your research talents lie and that you gain the necessary experience as a starting researcher. You will participate in ongoing research by lecturers or PhD students. Activities that will play a role in this include: - studying, summarizing and discussing the scientific literature that forms the starting point of the research you are participating in - devising and formulating relevant research questions - collecting and/or making research data available or source material - analyzing and interpreting research data or source material
Language and Literacy Development (2nd year Bachelor's program in Communication and Information Sciences)
This course aims at the development of knowledge and understanding of: (a) the nature, functions and development of literacy; (b) the social and psychological factors that have an impact on the use and development of literacy ; (c) the consequences of literacy. In this course we will look at literacy from different theoretical perspectives. Sociocultural, cognitive and linguistic approaches to the study of literacy will be discussed. Lectures and seminars will introduce the participants into theories, methods and current issues in literacy research.
Writing: Context, Process and Text (Master's program in Communication and Education)
In this course we will look at writing from different theoretical perspectives. Sociocultural, cognitive, and linguistic approaches to the study of writing contexts, writing processes and texts will be discussed. The reading materials and seminars will introduce you into theories, methods, and current issues in writing research. In the seminars you will also apply your knowledge of theories and issues in writing research, and get acquainted with qualitative and quantitative tools and technologies for the elicitation, registration, and analysis of writing data. In the second block, you will design, execute, and report an empirical study.
