CURRENT FUNDED PROJECTS:

1. i-CONN: a Marie-Curie International Training Network (ITN) funded by the Horizon 2020 programme (https://iconn.network/). Duration (1 October 2019 - 2024). My role: main beneficiary for University of Groningen and Co-investigator.

• Description: i-CONN consists of 10 Universities and three partner organizations across Europe, and brings together scientists from across a range of disciplines: Archeology, Astrophysics, Computer Science, Economics, Ecology, Geomorphology, Human Geography, Hydrology, Neuroscience, Policy & Political Science, Sociology, and Systems Biology. The goal of i-CONN has been to train a new cohort of researchers (15 funded PhD researchers in total) specialized in the developing field of Connectivity Science – a field that encompasses social network analysis, alongside other methodological approaches that aim to capture differing notions and aspects of connectivity.

2. PANTHEON: an EU-China collaboration, funded by Horizon EUROPE. Duration (1 March 2024 - 2028). My role: Co-investigator and work package leader.

• Description: PANTHEON (Pathways towards Carbon Neutrality for Climate, Environment, Health and Socio-Economic Co-Benefits) addresses the challenges for realizing a decarbonized society via a combination of modeling and scientific expertise, cross-regional interdisciplinarity, and stakeholder engagement. Our Consortium consists of an international, multidisciplinary team of experts from both the EU and China, who, collectively, aim to deliver state-of-the-art, data- and stakeholder- informed scenarios that consider socio-economic-environmental trade-offs of different decisions and technology paths, at high sectoral, temporal, and spatial scales, linking the EU and China regions, along with the rest of the globe.

1. Austrian-Fulbright Scholarship Award (Spring/Summer 2019), at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria. Description: to conduct independent research and contribute to teaching on social network analysis and coupled human/natural systems. My role: Visiting Scholar

2. Integrated Coastal Resiliency Assessment (ICRA) on the Deal Island Penninsula, Maryland, USA. Funded by the Maryland Sea Grant Award. Duration (2016-2018). My role: Co-investigator. Description: a transdisciplinary project involving researchers, local & state actors in a collaborative assessment of the vulnerabilities, resiliences, and adaptations to climate change.

3. Linking local consumption to global environmental impacts. Dean’s Research Initiative Grant from the University of Maryland, BSOS Faculty. Year: 2014-2015. My role: Principle investigator

4. The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Early Career, First Time Grants Awards Scheme, Topic: Social capital and small worlds: theoretical and empirical advances, Successfully funded project. Duration: June 2008 – June 2010. My role: Principle investigator.
