Bart Ramakers (Hoensbroek, 1961) studied Dutch Language and Literature at Radboud University Nijmegen (1980-1987) and Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto (1987-1988). He did his Ph.D in Nijmegen (1989-1993), where he defended his thesis, supervised by Wim Hummelen and Herman Pleij, in 1996. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at VU University Amsterdam (1998-2001) and as a Lecturer at Radboud University Nijmegen (2001-2002). In 2002 he was appointed to the Chair of Historical Dutch Literature at the University of Groningen.
His teaching and research cover Dutch literature from the Middle Ages up to and including the Enlightenment (see further under Teaching and Research).
