PhD Project: Transformation by Design: Building Climate Resilience in Coastal Areas
My PhD research aims to generate empirically grounded knowledge on how design-led resilience planning can transform coastal areas to be climate-resilient.
I provide input into the theoretical discourse on the interface of design and planning by conceptualizing design-led planning for transformative change in coastal regions.
I conduct an empirical analysis to uncover how the ambition of transformative change shapes design-led planning practices.
In my first paper, I compare design-led planning practices in the cases of Rebuild by Design (USA) and Water as Leverage (Asia).
The findings from this study will contribute toward further understanding of design-led planning initiatives focused on building climate resilience in coastal areas, and the mechanisms for the successful implementation of climate resilience initiatives. It also provides insight into the enabling institutional conditions for transformative change in coastal areas.
