dr. A.G. (Arjen) van Assen
Arjen van Assen (1991) is an assistant professor at the Child and Family Welfare department of the University of Groningen. His research focusses on services for children and families with complex and multiple problems. He obtained his bachelor's degree Pedagogical Sciences (2010-2013) at the University of Groningen. He received his master's degree Educational Sciences (2013-2014; cum laude) and Research Master Behavioural and Social Sciences (2014-2015) at the same university. In 2022 he received his PhD for a study on child-centred care (Child and Youth Coaching) for children growing up in famlies experiencing complex and multiple problems. His teaching is predominantly focussed on the methodology of social sciences. Between 2016 and 2021 he was a board member of the EUSARF Academy, an international network for PhD-candidates and early career researchers in the field of family and residential care. He is also a member of the expertise centre for families experiencing complex and multiple problems at the University of Groningen. Furthermore, he is involved in the Academic Centre for people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities.
