About House of Connections
House of Connections is the new home of the University of Groningen on the Grote Markt in Groningen. Here we accommodate the connecting vanguard of the university that focuses on societal impact. There is also a large, multifunctional event floor where the university gives visibility to its education, research and impact.
Our society faces enormous challenges in the areas of climate change, sustainability, social resilience, more healthy years and digital developments. The University of Groningen sees it as its role and responsibility to contribute to well-founded and structural solutions through innovative scientific research and education. We do this with four Schools and as the initiator of the University of the North from the House of Connections, our accessible and vibrant workplace.
We are convinced that a cross-discipline and cross-institutional approach leads to the most valuable social contribution. The University of the North, a regional knowledge and innovation network, feeds the interdisciplinary and innovative research and education of the Schools on the most important change assignments in the Northern Netherlands. The joining of forces of scientists and students from different disciplines within the Schools helps the region move forward with new knowledge and clear insights. Our contribution is the result of close cooperation and continuous dialogue with citizens, companies and civil society organizations, with other knowledge institutions, the UMCG, and local authorities such as the municipality of Groningen and the three northern provinces.
