Creating a Climate for Change
The Creating a Climate for Change Summer School aims to inspire students (PhD or Master’s) and professionals working or studying in fields related to integrated sustainability. It will give them the opportunity to develop the skills they need to start bringing about change within organizations. It will also raises awareness in the leaders of tomorrow to ensure that they take environmental sustainability into account in their thinking and practices.

International Law for Sustainable Societies
This Summer School, organized by the Department of International Law, aims to explore the contribution of international law to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 SDGs set 169 targets for advancement, including universal access to food, water, healthcare and education; the sustainability of economic growth; ensuring protection of the environment; and the promotion of peace and justice. Each day of our Summer School will be devoted to a particular subtheme, such as basic human needs, sustainable development, the human environment, migration, crises and transitions.

Local Energy Innovation for Global Change
What is driving emerging technologies and new social or economic approaches? How do these innovations relate to existing investors and companies? The Groningen Energy Summer School will focus on Local Energy Innovations for Global Change. It will take an integrative approach to the societal and technological dimensions of energy transition. By combining a broad range of disciplines, this Summer School offers a unique opportunity for PhD students to become aware of different aspects of energy transition.

The Curse of Natural Gas Resources
This Summer School will take place in Tanzania. Enormous gas resources have been found here, which raises the question of how and under which conditions this gas will be extracted from under the deep sea. Furthermore, where will the revenue go? We will cover key questions including how can local communities and local governmental agencies profit from the gas resources and how can Tanzania overcome the ‘curse’ of an abundance of natural resources?

Energy Law on Location
Energy Law on Location is a postgraduate course jointly offered by the Groningen Centre of Energy Law and Juridisch Postacademische onderwijs, focusing on Dutch energy law from a European perspective. The course, which is taught on location, covers the entire energy chain ‘from well head to burner tip’. All relevant legal aspects of each energy source and each part of the energy chain – production, supply, transport – will be discussed by both academics and experts from the field.

North Sea Energy Law Programme
The North Sea Energy Law Programme is a dynamic part-time accredited Master’s programme which brings together the combined knowledge of the Universities of Groningen, Oslo, Aberdeen and Copenhagen. This joint LL.M degree is designed to help participants gain a broader, deeper and more powerful vision of energy law. A key component of the programme involves spending two weeks at each of the four universities and going on site visits. The unique structure allows participants to continue in full-time employment while establishing close relationships with fellow participants, lecturers and practitioners during concentrated teaching blocks.
