University of the North
The University of the North is an initiative of the University of Groningen (UG), the UMCG, Hanze, NHL Stenden, Van Hall Larenstein and the Northern secondary vocational education (MBO) institutions: Alfa-college, Noorderpoort, DC Terra, Firda, Aeres and ROC Menso Alting. With the University of the North, the affiliated educational and knowledge institutions want to boost the transitions as formulated in the Knowledge Agenda and the broad prosperity in the Northern Netherlands. The University of the North does this through multilevel education and research (by intermediate vocational education institutions, universities of applied sciences, and research universities), stimulating entrepreneurship and making smart use of each other’s real estate and facilities.

The UG in the University of the North
The UG has been involved as a partner in the University of the North from the very beginning. The network organization therefore has an important place in our university’s strategic plan. With its academic teaching and research, the UG fulfills a unique and crucial role in the University of the North. We deploy our knowledge in solving regional social issues. Thus, together we boost the broad prosperity of the Northern Netherlands.
