On 22 November 2017 the first meet up of the Data Federation Hub (DFH) took place. The Data Federation Hub is a platform which links existing expertise and facilities in the area of Research Data across the UG and UMCG. The ambition is to improve support in data management and data science while stimulate and enable safeguarded collaboration among researchers (inter)nationally.

The essence of the hub is to be a reliable platform for the academic community. This is done in first instance facilitating the sharing of best practices, channeling the needs of research data supporters and pointing to the range of available tools, infrastructures and expertise throughout the whole research data lifecycle.

DFH first meet up

The meet up was opened by Rector Elmer Sterken who warranted the need of excellent research data support. He endorsed the platform by unveiling the DFH vignette with a short clip!

During the meet up data experts across UG - UMCG started the conversations to how effectively shape the platform. The discussions touched upon issues on privacy, tooling, storage, policy/funding, data science and other topics relevant to everyone dealing with research data challenges. The conversation was chaired by Marjolein Nieboer and introduction to this new hub was shaped by Ronald Stolk.

The dialogue was at full steam, with 50 and more participants all actively involved in shaping the development of tools  - processes - infrastructures to better meet their needs of research data supporters. Some visuals available on CIT twitter.
