UTQ by Experience

From September 2025 onwards, we will offer a revised version of the UTQ by Experience programme. Teachers who are currently enrolled in the UTQ by Experience trajectory are encouraged to finish their trajectory before July 1st, 2025, but are also allowed to join this new setup.

Step 1: Enroll for the UTQ programme

To determine whether you are eligible for the By Experience trajectory, you must first apply for the general UTQ. After careful consideration of your educational experience, we will send you a final advice within 1-2 months.

Step 2: Register for the UTQ by Experience group

After receiving your BKO advice, you can apply for one of the BKO by Experience groups. Two times a year, there start two new groups: the main language is English and the groups are diverse mix of faculties. Under the subheadings ‘content and procedure’ and ‘dates and enrolment’ you will find more information about this programme.

Contents and methods

Topics covered

Teacher professional development is an ongoing process that requires reflection, feedback and collaboration. During the meetings, different elements are addressed in the form of interactive discussions and practical assignments. Topics covered include:

  • Defining "good" teaching
  • Fostering students' sense of belonging and motivation
  • Implementing active learning methods
  • Providing effective supervision (for small groups or individual students)
  • Learning outcomes and the principle of "constructive alignment"
  • Fitting your course (unit) in the curriculum and/or programme
  • Taking into account a diverse student population
  • Assessment for, as and of learning (i.e., formative and summative assessment methods)
  • Implementing different forms of assessment and feedback fitting your course design.

Additionally, within the UTQ by Experience trajectory there is room for diving deeper into a self-selected educational theme that matches your personal learning questions, based on your own interest and development potential.

Way of working

During the meetings, you work on concrete products that are directly applicable. Throughout the programme, you form a community of learners under the guidance of a trainer. This offers you the opportunity to learn from the perspectives and contexts of others. We expect an active contribution from everyone in the group, including giving feedback on each other's work. Because exchanging experiences and giving each other feedback is an important part of the training, meeting attendance is mandatory.

Assignments

In addition to the meetings, the programme consists of three asynchronous assignments to be completed in parallel with the on-site workshops:

  1. Lesson observations: You will observe yourself once and observe a colleague using a structured, research-based observation form. You then reflect on the feedback you received and what you observed yourself.
  2. Individual expert consultation: You engage in a conversation with an expert or expert by experience on an educational topic of your choice. The conversation should focus on actual implementation in teaching practice
  3. Guided conversation with manager: You will engage in a conversation with your supervisor about an educational topic of your choice and explore the possiblities of integrating this topic within the current educational programme.
