The five universities near the Wadden organize a yearly Coastal Research and Education Workshop meeting to develop and sustain research and educational cooperation around the Wadden coastal region. In the workshop around 15 selected students present recent research work, while an equal amount of staff members share plans for joint activities. In 2020 the University of Groningen hosts the meeting. The 2020 meeting has the theme Sustainable Landscapes: Challenges in the Waddensea Coastal Region.
