Luncheon Meeting D&G |Mapping the landscape of transnational municipal networks

When:Th 21-03-2024 12:00 - 13:30
Where:Grey room, House of Connections, Grote Markt 21 Groningen

On 21 March, there will be a Luncheon Meeting on 'Mapping the landscape of transnational municipal networks,' by Piero Tortola (RUG).

Transnational municipal networks -- organisations linking cities across national borders -- are a rapidly growing phenomenon around the world, and one of the most tangible manifestations of the "glocalisation" of governance in a wide range of policy areas. Yet, we still know very little about TMNs beyond largely anecdotal evidence, often based on a handful of "usual suspects". This presentation will overview a novel dataset of 122 TMNs aimed to fill this knowledge gap, focusing on some preliminary empirical findings as well as the methodological challenges faced by scholars wanting to research this institutional form.
