Zernike seminar: Linn Rykkje "Atomic Layer Deposition of (Rare-Earth) Ferrites and Nickelates: The What, How and Why"

When:Tu 22-10-2024 14:00 - 15:00
Where:FGB, 5616.0144

Linn Rykkje is a PhD candidate in the research group for Nanostructures and Functional Materials (NAFUMA) at the University of Oslo (Norway). She has been working with atomic layer deposition (ALD) of complex oxide thin films since 2019 and will showcase the what, how and why of her research through the lens of two materials classes: (rare-earth) ferrites and nickelates. The overarching aim is to optimize the ALD process for these materials to 1) achieve control of key thin film parameters such as composition and structure, 2) enhance desired properties, and 3) potentially unlock emergent behaviors. The talk will showcase the findings and mysteries encountered along the way, including anomalous metal-insulator transitions, unexpected variations in growth characteristics, general struggles (and successes), and the hopefully exciting results that lie ahead.
