1st Zernike Institute PhD colloquium symposium

16 September 2022

The Zernike Institute has a vivid PhD community. During the lockdown they created a byweekly virtual get-together to hear about other PhD students research and get inspired and to team up. It was a great way to meet when this was not possible in the halls of our University. When the lockdown ended and labs began to be crowded again they moved the colloquium from the virtual to the real world creating stages for their fellow PhDs to present their work, fine-tune their presentation skills and learn about the full breadth of the institute. In the spring of 2022 they came up with the idea to scale-up and organize a symposium with external speakers, a select group of PhD students giving talks and a poster session. On September 15th the first Zernike Institute PhD colloquium symposium went live - and what a beautiful premier it was. The symposium kicked-off with Michael Rubinstein, Aleksandar S. Vesic Distinguished Professor at Duke University, as invited academic guest speaker, later followed by Sofia Dimitriadou of VSparticle as industry guest speaker. For an impression have a look at the photos below. Kudos! to the organizing team for setting up this beautiful event and we are looking forward to many more editions to come.
