Looking back: ECR Lunch on Work Pressure and WO-In-Actie

19 November 2019

On November 13, the YAG hosted an early career research (ECR) lunch on Work Pressure and WO-In-Actie. The lunch featured a talk by Ton Modderman, who gave his insights from and about the Staff Survey 2018 and the upcoming Staff Survey 2019 concerning work pressure. After, Laura Bringmann shared the results of the survey on work pressure and WO-in-Actie that was conducted before the lunch. During and following these presentations, the audience, representing many different disciplines, discussd their thoughts on work pressure, some WO-in-Actie actions and other ideas to bring awareness to work pressure.

Some ideas that came out of the discussion:

  • Join the union and take collective rather than individual action
  • Connect with and involve students & student representatives
  • Start and continue a public debate, showing numbers of burn-out among scientists (For example by tracking the number of hours you work in a week. You can use a tool like Toggl to do this)
  • Organise a conference with (international) policy makers to discuss how they approach and handle these issues

Do you have any other ideas on the subject or do you want to stay in touch with the YAG about events on these and similar subjects? Leave your e-mail and ideas by clicking the button below!
