Applying evolutionary reasoning to humans: the benefits and limits

On September 20th, the YAG organized a very succesful debate on applying evolutionary reasoning to humans:

"At a debate organised by the Young Academy, Fleischman, from the University of Portsmouth in the UK, went toe-to-toe with RUG evolutionary sociologist Gert Stulp and RUG cultural geographer Bettina van Hoven.

Her position is bold: women are underrepresented in certain fields because of evolution, not because of discrimination. ‘If women don’t have a preference for engineering I don’t think it is because of discrimination in the field; I think it is because being female or being male means you also have different psychologies’, says Fleischman."
