Dr. T.A. (Thom) de Vries

Dr. Thom de Vries is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Resource Management & Organizational Behavior at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), where he also completed his PhD (cum laude). Thom previously worked for TNO, and he was a Fulbright visiting scholar at Michigan State University, USA. In his research, Thom focuses on finding out how we can enable and motivate employees to collaborate with individuals from other teams, departments, disciplines, and organizations (so-called boundary spanning). He also examines how boundary spanning can enable organizations to deal with unexpected events and incidents that might otherwise threaten their resilience.  

In the Young Academy Groningen, Thom aims to contribute his knowledge to further promote interdisciplinary boundary spanning within the University of Groningen. He seeks to create additional opportunities (in teaching and research) that can enable members from different faculties to become acquainted with each other and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration.
