The event is part of the track "The Quantum Universe" of the Physics and Astronomy Master programmes, a collaboration between the Van Swinderen Institute for Particle Physics and Gravity (VSI), the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute,  the KVI - Center for Advanced Radiation Technology (KVI-CART) and the Johann Bernoulli Institute (JBI). The aim of the symposium is to present new developments, both theoretical and experimental, in (astro-)particle physics and astronomy and to stimulate interactions between the different institutes. The present edition is has the theme "Dark and Light", in conjunction with the International Year of Light and the centenary of the formulation of General Relativity by Albert Einstein in 1915. The role and implications of dark and light in physics, mathematics and astronomy will be highlighted in several talks.
