Titel:

`Introduction to Effective Field Theory and Beyond'

Abstract:

In order for physicists to understand a physical system, it is neither practical nor possible to know all the physical details of the system.

A practical way is to isolate the ingredients which are most relevant for the physical problems at hand, so that one can construct a simple enough description which can address the physical problems. Effective Field Theory (EFT) is a framework in Quantum Field Theory which systematically extracts relevant physical information at low energy – low compared with a certain energy scale in the system under study – at desired precision.

In this lecture series, the lecturer will first introduce the basic ideas of EFT. Then the basic methods in EFT will be explained in examples from particle physics. Finally, the lecturer will discuss the Swampland conjectures – a possibility that not all EFTs which appear consistent may not actually be consistent when quantum gravitational effects are taken into account.
