Title:
Equilibrium Partition Functions and Black Probe Branes in Supergravity
Abstract:
Abstract: Black holes are generic gravitational objects in any theory of gravity. Their dynamics can be described by a long-wavelength effective theory for which its stationary sector is encoded in an equilibrium partition function. This equilibrium partition function incorporates hydrodynamic and elastic degrees of freedom and allows to scan for possible black hole horizon geometries and topologies. In the context of supergravity, the dynamics of black branes are, to leading order, governed by the equations of motion for probe branes in flux backgrounds. We show how these can be obtained via elastic perturbations of black branes and in full generality using stress-energy conservation. This work shines light on the DBI/SUGRA correspondence.
