This book is the first independent publication dedicated to the drawings of this great Dutch cultural historian. Johan Huizinga (1872-1945) was a natural talent whose hand drew what his eyes saw. These could be sensitive landscape drawings, caricatures of people around him or of famous people, ironic or non-ironic illustrations of history, or amusing drawings for his children and grandchildren. His performances as a quick-draw artist aroused hilarity among his pupils, participants in scientific conferences, as well as members of the royal family at Paleis Het Loo.
