New Polities. Political thought in Late Antiquity

The study of political thought of the Later Roman Empire has tended to focus on the idea that Hellenistic kingship theory was adopted by Christianity and thus put an end to ancient traditions of polis-focused political ideas. This paper asks if there are alternative ways of telling the story and how this would translate into different research questions.

Settler Colonial Paradigms: What can classical reception add to the study of colonialism? 

This talk introduces the "Settler Colonial Paradigms" project. The project examines settler colonialism—a form of colonialism where foreign settlers permanently occupy and control indigenous lands—by exploring how classical models, such as those from Greek and Roman antiquity, were studied and reactivated in later colonial contexts.
