New Faculty of Arts Data Science Projects
In the spring of 2018, for the second time, the Data Science team of the Center for Information Technology (CIT) invited researchers of this university to submit proposals for innovative data science projects. Unfortunately, this round only one humanities project was funded. This meant that the remaining matching opportunities of the CDH had to be allotted in a new way. Based on the CIT committee’s assessment, and also thanks to an extra contribution by the Faculty Board, the CDH is able to sponsor four more projects with 12.500 euros for data-science support and some extra funding for material costs.
These projects are:
-
Are They Telling the Same Story? Trying to Break Filter Bubbles, PI Tommaso Caselli (Computational Linguistics)
-
Dating the undateable: Defining coarse ceramic fabrics by means of machine learning, PI Corien Wiersma (Greek Archeology)
-
Automatic rating and recognition of Groningen speakers, PI Martijn Wieling (Computational Linguistics)
-
Digital exploration of a Forgotten Mutual Cultural Heritage: Seventeenth-Century Dutch Maps in the Florentine Collections of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III de’ Medici, PI Sabrina Corbellini (History)
The next round of the call for proposals for data science starts in the second quarter of 2019. The CDH will organize a special workshop with data-scientist from the CIT/RIS in order to help researchers prepare a proposal for this next round.
