Save the date: National Open Science Festival on 24 October 2025 in Groningen

The fifth edition of the National Open Science Festival will take place on 24 October 2025 in Groningen. Be sure to mark your calendar!
Open Science NL is delighted that the University of Groningen (UG) and the University Medical Center (UMCG) have generously offered to host this year’s festival. The one-day event will be held in the buildings of the UMCG.
Like last year, the festival is organised by a team with representatives from the host institution, Open Science NL, DANS, and the National Coordination Point for Research Data Management (LCRDM). In addition, the programme will be curated by an independent committee, ensuring broad community representation. The programme committee will be chaired by Casper Albers, dean of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences and chair of the steering committee of the Open Science Programme at the University of Groningen, and Ana Ranitović, chief of Open Science at the University of Groningen.
Previous editions of the festival were hosted by Wageningen University (2021, online), Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2022), Erasmus University Rotterdam (2023), and Maastricht University (2024).
The opening of registration will be announced via the festival’s communication channels and those of the participating organisations.
Satellite event: the OSC-NL Barcamp on 23 October 2025 in Groningen
After a successful first edition last year, the second OSC-NL Barcamp will take place the day before the National Open Science Festival, just like last year at the same venue. A Barcamp is an all-day-long event with no predetermined programme – the topics of all sessions are determined on the spot. Over 100 open science enthusiasts, from novices to people more experienced in open science practices will collaborate in a format that encourages new ideas, knowledge exchange, and open dialogue amongst peers. There will also be pizza! The Barcamp is organised by the network of bottom-up Open Science Communities OSC-NL and the National Coordination Point Research Data Management (LCRDM).
