With the Centre of Landscape Studies the University of Groningen is responding to the rapidly increasing importance of landscape in the scientific and social debate.
- From a scientific point of view, the landscape is a multifaceted subject of study that offers numerous possibilities for the connection of concepts and methods from the humanities, social sciences, spatial sciences and natural sciences.
- From a social point of view, the landscape plays an important role in issues of sustainability (people-planet-profit), cultural identity, spatial development and biodiversity.
Core activities
Education
During the master's program in landscape history, landscape specialists are trained in the direction of the structure and history of landscapes.
Research
The Centre of Landscape Studies offers fundamental and applied scientific research. In research assignments for governments organizations, coherent multidisciplinary landscape analyzes are performed by employees, PhD students and students.
Knowledge exchange
By organizing symposia and courses, websites, open lectures, excursions and study trips, the Center for Landscape Studies ensures the exchange and dissemination of landscape knowledge.
