Programme National Stargazing Days 2025

Every spring, we participate in the National Stargazing Days, a weekend full of astronomical activities throughout The Netherlands. This year, the National Stargazing Days are on March 7,8 and 9. The Blaauw Observatory is open for the public on Saturday March 8 between 18:00 - 23:00hrs. Entrance to the event is free, so don't hesitate to come and enjoy guided tours, planetarium shows, lectures, quizzes and even an interactive exhibition! The programme and map for this year are shown below.

Programme

Guided tours (start room 105)

The observatory will be open from 18:30 - 23:00. Even with bad weather, the observatory can be visited for a guided tour. In this case beautiful images of the universe made with the Gratama Telescope of the Blaauw Observatory are shown.

Guided tours start every 45 minutes, with English guided tours at 20:00 and 21:00. You will need a ticket for this activity.

Kapteyn Mobile Planetarium (start opposite of room 105)

Opposite of room 105 you may join a virtual journey through the universe in the mobile planetarium. Starts every half hour. This activity requires a ticket, you can purchase here. English shows are at 18:45 and 22:00 hrs.

Stargazing (outside next to the Bernoulliborg)

If the weather is good you can look at the stars outside through a telescope.

Stellarium app (room 134)

Explore the 3D night sky with the Stellarium app by swiping back and forth on a large screen.

Craft corner (for kids and adults) (coffee corner across from 105)

  • Make your own spectrograph.

  • Build a planet with different types of clay.

  • Draw a night sky together.

Coffee and exhibits (entrance and hall)

Here you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea, draw together on a starry sky rug and experiment with science at the ScienceLinX exhibit.
