PhD student Nadine Kuipers wins Science Slam

06 February 2018

ICOG PhD student Nadine Kuipers and Philosophy student and poet Richard Nobbe have won the Studium Generale Groningen Science Slam 2018 for their poem about Kuipers’ research. Kuipers investigates Medieval texts on agriculture, so called husbandry books. In the poem, the researcher and the poet play with the advices in these books and draw attention to various aspects of (the diffusion of) medieval knowledge on agronomy and livestock breeding.

Kuipers competed with nine other PhD students, each paired with a poet. After an intensive brain storm session, the poets turned the researchers' passion for research into words and wrote a poem based on the their research. It is not the first time that a ICOG PhD student wins the Science Slam. Last year doctoral researcher Ruben Verwaal won the Science Slam with a poem on his research on the early modern (scientific) interpretations of body fluids.
