PhD training
For all PhD candidates in the Faculty of Arts, admission, training, and supervision are organized in the Graduate School for the Humanities (GSH), in close cooperation with the ICOG director and researchers.
As members of the Graduate School for Humanities, PhDs follow a 30 ECTS training programme, which they compile together with their supervisors according to their specific needs. PhD candidates can choose from a number of in-house courses, modules taken at their affiliated national research schools, and other training opportunities. The courses offered by the Graduate School are usually focused on research skills.
As a PhD candidate you will join one (or more) of ICOG’s five Research Centres and one (or more) of such a Research Centre’s theme groups. Thus you can participate in reading groups, lecture series, conferences, and workshops. You benefit from the institute’s research dynamics and actively contribute to it yourself. You are always welcome as well to make suggestions to improve ICOG or its Centres’ programme and organisation. Please discuss your intended affiliations with your supervisors and then contact the group you wish to join.
