Publishing in English

This course is organized in cooperation with the Language Centre, University of Groningen.

Language Centre: "This language course will help you improve your English writing skills, particularly for academic publications. The course deals with publishing in its broadest sense, aiming to make you aware of the main language issues that arise when writing an academic paper in English. By the end of this course, you should be more flexible in writing English, with the ability to make considered word and form choices while avoiding common errors."

Participants will be required to submit samples of their writing, for example a draft chapter or an article. This will allow the course supervisor to provide specific feedback on the candidate’s most recent work. To evaluate the work, the instructor will refer to recent chapters or articles that represent the best practices in academic writing in English in a given field.

The classes will take place in person, on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 to 12:00, from 29 October 2024 to 28 January 2025.

Format of the course:

• 3-hour sessions for 7 weeks
• 30-minute one-on-one tutorial with each participant at the end of the course
