Drafting, writing, and editing academic texts is challenging for most researchers, regardless of their career-stage. However, good writing habits can be learned and developed. In this interactive workshop, we will discuss academic writing habits from the viewpoint of early-career researchers. By using the “BASE” framework (Sword, 2017), we will delve into behavioural, artisanal, social, and emotional habits of writing, which are often overlooked when working on one’s PhD under strict deadlines. More specifically, we will discuss…
-
how to “carve out” time and space for writing
-
how to treat writing as an ongoing development, challenge, and growth
-
how to work together with others to support both individual and co-writing
-
share tips on good writing habits in a supportive environment
The workshop is facilitated by Dr. Melina Aarnikoivu. In her PhD, Melina studied doctoral education from a holistic perspective, after which she completed a postdoc project on academic writing and publishing of early-career researchers. Currently, Melina works as the PhD Academy Coordinator at the Faculty of Science and Engineering (UG).
