Announcement of death of Prof. CHCM Buys
We have just received the sad news that Prof. C.H.C.M. (Charles) Buys died last night. Although we knew that he was seriously ill, we remain shocked at this loss. Our thoughts go out to his wife Anneke.
Prof. Charles Buys was head of the Department of Genetics from 1987 to 2007. He made important contributions to genetics at the very start of the developments in the field of molecular genetics. He held numerous national and international positions. For example, he was vice-chairman of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for nine years and a member of the European Research Advisory Board of the European Commission for six years.
On behalf of the management team, I offer my sympathy to everyone in dealing with his loss.
Cisca Wijmenga, head of Department of Genetics
