Supervisor: Dr. John McKean (Kapteyn, ASTRON)
Dr. John McKean holds an Assistant Professorship at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute and a Staff Astronomer position at the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON). He was awarded an M.Sci (Hons) in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Glasgow in 1999. He carried out his thesis work at Jodrell Bank Observatory, University of Manchester, and was awarded a PhD in Radio Astronomy in 2004. He was then a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University California, Davis (US), a Marie Curie Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (Germany) and a Junior Scientist at ASTRON. His expertise is in very long baseline interferometry at radio wavelengths and studying galaxy formation with gravitational lensing.
