New professor of Innovative Computer Architectures: Dirk Pleiter

Starting this year, Dirk Pleiter officially joined the CogniGron team full time as professor of Computer Architectures, after he already joined the institute part-time in October last year. He started his career as a physicist, but after getting involved in the design of special-purpose high-performance computing (HPC) systems, he became a computer scientist.
Dirk's research focuses on the co-design of computer architectures (including HPC architectures) and digital infrastructures. HPC uses supercomputers to solve advanced computation problems. These computers are able to produce complex simulations in areas such as weather forecasting and climate research and thus require a lot of computing power. At CogniGron, he aims to carry out research and development efforts related to the integration of neuromorphic computing devices in computer architectures, with a special interest in bringing neuromorphic and high-performance computing together.
He also has a part-time affiliation at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, where he is a professor of HPC.
Welcome to the team, Dirk!
