Significant TKI Subsidy Awarded to SUNSOLR Project

25 November 2024

We are pleased to announce that the SUNSOLR project, in which our researchers Dulce Morales and Paolo Pescarmona are actively involved, has been awarded a 2MEuro TKI subsidy by the Topsector Energie. €400,000 will go to the Engineering and Technology institute to fund the research of a doctoral fellow (or PhD student)

The SUNSOLR project, led by the Institute for Sustainable Process Technology (ISPT), is an initiative focused on developing new technologies for the direct electrification of chemical conversions of CO2 and H2O/H2, aiming to produce CO, CH4, olefins, and methanol. Morales an Pescarmona contribute to this project by exploring the use of supercritical CO2 as a medium for producing chemicals such as formic acid (HCOOH), ethylene (H2C=CH2), and methane (CH4). By operating in a supercritical phase, the reaction potentially becomes more efficient and productive than traditional gas-phase methods.

This TKI subsidy is a significant endorsement of the project's potential to drive innovation in sustainable energy solutions and carbon utilization.
