Introducing our new scientific staff member Saeed Ahmed
Saeed Ahmed joined the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG) as a tenure-track Assistant Professor with an education profile on December 1, 2022. He will establish his research line on Systems and Control Engineering in the Discrete Technology and Production Automation (DTPA) group.
Saeed Ahmed received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University Turkey, in alliance with Inria Saclay, Laboratory of Signals and Systems, CentraleSupelec, France, through the Campus France PHC Programme Bosphore. His Ph.D. thesis was focused on constructing a new trajectory-based approach for the stability, estimation, and control of a broad class of engineering systems for which the Lyapunov-based method is hard to apply. He wrote his thesis under the direction of Frederic Mazenc, Micheal Malisoff, and Hitay Ozbay. He won the best overall research presentation award in the category of Control/Robotics/Communications/Networks at the IEEE graduate research conference during his Ph.D. During his Ph.D., he worked as a teaching assistant for numerous bachelor and master-level courses focused on Systems and Control. He therafter worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Technische Universitat (TU) Kaiserslautern in Germany, focussed on finding necessary and sufficient conditions for input-to-state stability of (deterministic and stochastic) hybrid systems. During that period, he introduced a new course on learning-based control with an emphasis on data-driven system identification. He then served as a postdoctoral researcher in the Discrete Technology and Production Automation (DTPA) group at the University of Groningen, focusing on the application of nonlinear control and optimization techniques for improving the efficiency of energy systems. During that period, he taught a course on Mechatronics offered to the bachelor program in Industrial Engineering and management and the master program in biomedical engineering. He also served as a teaching assistant for the course on Modeling and Control of Complex Engineering Systems offered to the master program in applied mathematics and mechanical engineering.
His current research interests include the stability and control of nonlinear and hybrid systems and the connection between dissipativity theory and optimization with an application to energy systems.
We warmly welcome Saeed in our institute!
