Introducing our new scientific staff member Edita Jurak
ENTEG is proud to introduce Dr Edita Jurak as new tenure-track assistant professor in Carbohydrate Biochemical Engineering. Edita recently started her research in Aquatic Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering group of Prof. dr. van der Maarel.
Edita Jurak received her MSc in Ecology (MSc thesis in Plant Physiology) from University of Zagreb in 2009, Zagreb, Croatia. In 2015 she received her PhD degree in Food Chemistry on the topic How Mushrooms feed on sugars: Characterization and accessibility of cell wall polysaccharides and lignin from plant biomass from Wageningen. Further, she continued her research in Novel Enzyme Discovery as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Group leader on Enzyme Discovery group of the ERC-consolidator project BHIVE (Bio-Derived High Value polymers trough novel enzyme function) at Aalto University, Finland with Prof. dr. Emma Master.
Edita’s research focuses on plant biomass carbohydrate chemistry and carbohydrate active enzymes. Her expertise is plant biomass analytical chemistry, protein sequence analysis and enzyme characterization. A key aspect of her research work at the University of Groningen will be focused on functional carbohydrates from plant biomass and their applications.
In parallel to research Edita is a member of Happiness Academy Team- where she is involved in designing courses and materials on topics of Positive Psychology.
For details you can find Edita on https://www.rug.nl/staff/e.jurak/, Google Scholar and LinkedIN.
