Introducing our new scientific staff member Charissa Roossien
We are happy to introduce Dr. Charissa Roossien in our team. Dr. Roossien started on a tenure track as an Assistant Professor, with an education focus. She will be embedded in the Bioinspired MEMS and Biomedical Devices unit of professor Ajay Kottapalli. In this new role, she will spearhead innovation in BME education and integrate fundamental research with innovative developments into medical devices.
Charissa brings a wealth of expertise to our institute, with a background in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering. Her doctoral research, conducted at the University Medical Center of Groningen (UMCG), focused on the development and validation of sensor technologies for monitoring employee workload (Sensors@Work). Over the past nine years, Charissa has made significant contributions as a researcher and biomedical engineer at the UMCG's Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Human Movement Science. Her work has centered on the creation of personalized smart sensing and intervention devices for preventive healthcare. Her projects have ranged from the development of intelligent (hip) implants and research into simulating and investigating (biodegradable) osteosynthesis plates to the design of various types of exoskeletons and exploration of technologies for healthy living.
In addition to her research, Charissa has been actively involved as an educator and course coordinator. She has overseen courses related to designing biomedical products in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in BioMedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Groningen. Charissa also holds the role of BME Medical Device Design Track Coordinator.
We are eagerly anticipating the contributions and innovations that Dr. Charissa Roossien will bring to our institute.
