ENTEG Researchers contribute to Zpannend Zernike Science Festival 2024
The annual "Zpannend Zernike" science festival, held on October 5-6, 2024, once again transformed Groningen into a hub of scientific exploration. Researchers from the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG) at the University of Groningen made significant contributions, showcasing their research to inspire young minds.
Contributions from ENTEG Researchers:
- Wavy Whiskers of Wonders: Ajay Kottapalli exhibit showcased his innovative research on biomimetic sensors inspired by seal whiskers, bridging nature and engineering. Visitors could experience how 3D-printed whiskers in a water basin generate quivers, mimicking the remarkable flow-sensing abilities of seals.
- VR for Rehabilitation: Elisabeth Wilhelm presented a cutting-edge virtual reality application featuring flying birds, designed to aid in patient rehabilitation through immersive movement exercises.
- Artistic Science: Ranjita Bose collaborated with kids to create beautiful paintings illustrating the concepts of hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials, blending art with scientific education. This creative approach made complex surface science concepts accessible to young audiences.
- Self-Driving Challenge: Bayu Jayawardhana engaged visitors with an exciting autonomous vehicle technology demonstration, allowing hands-on experience with self-driving systems.
The "Zpannend Zernike" festival, part of the national Weekend van de Wetenschap, successfully brought together diverse scientific disciplines, offering a unique opportunity for the community to engage with cutting-edge research and technology in an interactive and enjoyable setting.
