ENTEG at King’s Day

01 May 2018

This year, Groningen had the honour of hosting the national celebrations for the King’s birthday, and on Friday, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima have celebrated King’s Day in Groningen. During the Royal Family’s 2-hour walk through the city centre, the spotlight has been on Groningen as a city of knowledge and talent. People from the Engineering and Technology institute Groningen (ENTEG), participated in the programme.

Robots at the Martini Kerkhof
At the Martinikerkhof, the University of Groningen organized the “Children's University” at this 'Children's Square'. Intelligent robots developed by Professor Dr Ming Cao of perform a special dance. The robots communicate fully autonomously with each other and can therefore perform complex tasks as an autonomous team; this technique finds its application in, among other things, self-driving cars. Children from the Groningen Eexter primary school (Scheemda) demonstrated the research.

Knowledge is King!
Immediately after the official part of King’s Day, a University of Groningen side event started on the Harmonieplein: Knowledge is King! This event was organized by the Young Academy Groningen, in collaboration with ScienceLinx and the UG Pre-University Academy. Between 2 and 6 p.m. adults and children could join in various activities and experiments. One of the activities was organized by staff from ENTEG. Here visitors could watch a real robotic fish from up close and children could attempt to have the robot fish carry out an assignment
