The Centre for East Asian Studies Groningen (CEASG) welcomes proposals for a conference on contemporary Mongolia: International Relations, Mining and the Environment.
The one-day conference, is tentatively organized around three panels related to Mongolia (and also Inner Mongolia, China):
Panel 1: Mongolia: International Relations/International Cooperation Belt and Road Initiative, Third Neighbor Policy, Official Development Assistance, foreign policy and International Relations related to Mongolia;
Panel 2: Mongolia: Mining and natural resources political economy of natural resources, Foreign Direct Investment, resource and energy security, and international taxation agreements related to Mongolia;
Panel 3: Mongolia: Environment and climate international perspectives on mining and the environment, desertification and climate change related to Mongolia; Participation and deadline Participants are invited to submit a short proposal (ca. 500 words) for a conference presentation before 30 June 2019 to ceasg@rug.nl. Conference presentation are scheduled for 20 min and followed by a panel discussion.
Following participation, participants are invited to submit a conference paper for publication. These and other contributions will be tentatively published by Brill, Leiden [for an example of an earlier CEASG conference publication see: China, East Asia and the European Union: Strong Economics, Weak Politics? Halbertsma, T. (ed.) & van der Harst, J. (ed.), 2016, Leiden: Brill. (International Comparative Social Studies; vol. 35)] Contributions towards travel and accommodation costs are available to selected participants. The conference is convened on 29 November at the University of Groningen, with support from among others the National Council for Mongolian Studies and CEASG.
