Personalized decision-support system for promoting healthy lifestyle in adults

Be-INTACT has the vision to prevent the development of two common health issues in office workers, namely metabolic syndrome and musculoskeletal disorder.

Metabolic syndrome affects one third of the population. It often leads to chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, diabetes and is therefore responsible for many premature deaths. Musculoskeletal disorder affects 1.7 billion people worldwide. It results in pain, decreases the working productivity, causes unnecessary absenteeism, and prevents people from participating in activities of daily living.

Both of these non-communicable are associate to sedentary lifestyle, reduced physical activity, and poor eating habits. Therefore, many cases could be prevented by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Be-INTACT is a sensor-based decision support system that helps office workers to maintain a healthy lifestyle by providing personalised suggestions to individual users. Furthermore, Be-INTACT helps companies to offer a healthier work environment and increase the productivity of their employees.

The system involves two components: a smart office workspace, which is currently tested by the first users, and a wearable that monitors food intake and movement, which will enter the testing phase in early 2023. The key elements of the smart office workspace can be found in the info graphic
