Integrated Design of an Automated Container Terminal Operations System
Description
A modern seaport's operations system must be able to handle the complex operations of a large-scale cargo. The container terminal system consists of various sub-systems, such as, berth, yard, quay crane, yard crane and prime mover. Additionally, there are external variables (or parties) that play important roles in the operations of container terminal systems, such as, shipping liners, stevedores, inland trucks and the terminal operators itself. Automation has also been an integral part in modern large-scale container terminal systems where it has been successfully implemented for improving the performance of sub-systems in the container terminal systems, for example, with the use of Auotmated Guided Vehicle (AGV) and automated crane systems.
In this research project, an integrated mechatronic design of automated terminal operations systems will be investigated.
