Hierarchical and distributed optimal control of integrated energy systems
In recent years in addition to traditional energy resources, a rapidly increasing amount of energy is generated by sustainable resources based on wind, solar, (bio) gas energy. Typically, such resources' production is local and time-varying in nature which makes balancing energy supply and demand a rather challenging decision-making problem within today's highly integrated energy system. Overall decision-making process can be cast as a large-scale optimal control problem in which control actions can be taken at various levels respecting a certain hierarchy as well as at various points locally. This research concerns with exactly such hierarchical and distributed optimal control problems that are tailored for integrated energy systems.
