Embracing constraints in complex control systems design
Constraints on sensors and actuators, on energy and resources and no computational power are inevitable limitations that have to be dealt with for the design of complex systems. They pose significant systems design challenges and can hinder the innovation process. As an enabling and integration technology in the design of modern complex systems, control design must confront these challenges and be able to embrache them in the feedback loop.
In a contrast to the matured control methods for linear systems, control methods for nonlinear systmes with constraints are still a far cry from being complete. Therefore the proposed research program focuses on the development of novel nonlinear control methods that handle contraints, with low computational load and with prescribed transient, as well as, prescribed robust behavior. The developments are facilitated by recent advances for nonlinear control systems.
