Varieties of re-enchantment: nature and spirituality in contemporary societies

Presented by Dr. Joram Tarusarira, University of Groningen

When climate-related security risks meet religion and spirituality

This presentation explores how religion shapes community responses to climate crises in fragile settings. Drawing on ethnographic research in Nampula, Mozambique, the talk critiques the overreliance on technological solutions in climate action. It argues that religion provides meaning and guidance, significantly affecting vulnerability and adaptive capacity in the face of environmental risks.
