Winter School & Workshop “Religions of India: Transformations of Values, Practices and Identities”
After taking both the Anthropology & Sociology and Hinduism & Buddhism courses, my interest in doing research in India was sparked. Luckily for me, there the Winter School & Workshop on “Religions of India: Transformations of Values, Practices and Identities” held by the IIT Delhi, was taking place a couple of weeks afterwards, from 19-23 March 2018. The workshop consisted in attending lectures and participating in discussions about topics regarding conversion in India. We also got the chance to interact with local students who were attending the workshop in order to present, refine and gain feedback on their master’s research proposals.
Moreover, we also visited important religious sites such as the Jagganath Temple in Hauz Khas were we participated in ritual prayers and observed prasad practices as well as a experiencing Sufi chanting at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Darga (a Sufi saint’s shrine).
Attending the workshop allowed me to not only immerse myself into a different culture but learn about what it takes to perform ethnographic research in India. I would honestly recommend this workshop to anyone wishing to expand their knowledge in the religious atmosphere of India, as well as to anyone interested in following either the research or religion: conflict and globalization masters.
