Event detection
In order to extend the dating method back into the Iron and Bronze Ages, further spikes need to be identified in the tree-ring archives.
We currently have a considerable amount of low-resolution data from these archives, as well as supplementary information from the Greenland ice-cores. Using cutting-edge data analytical techniques, such as Gaussian process modelling, the aim of this aspect of the process is to identify which years are likely to exhibit spikes, when new high-precision measurements are made.
