Veni grant for Henk van Waarde
31 August 2023
Recently NWO has granted Henk van Waarde a Veni Grant of 280.000 euros.
Henk van Waarde (Systems, Control and Optimization| SCO) receives the funding for his project "Kernel-based control theory of nonlinear systems".
The description of the project is stated as following: Dynamical system models obtained by contemporary data-driven modeling techniques often do not accurately portray the physics of the modeled phenomenon. This project aims at developing a theory for modeling and controlling dynamical systems based on the concept of reproducing kernels.
The key questions are how to embed physical prior knowledge of the dynamics in the kernel, and how to synthesize kernel-based controllers. The results will be applied to develop mathematical models of biological neurons and electrical circuits.

Veni is an individual science grant, part of the NWO Talent Programme, and aimed at researchers who have recently obtained their PhDs. The grant will allow the laureates to further develop their own research ideas over the next three years.
